Composed Display Against Brazil Earns Recognition
Despite making his World Cup debut and facing one of football’s strongest national teams, Bouaddi delivered a performance marked by confidence, calmness, and tactical maturity.
Opta described him as potentially the most impressive young player of the opening round, highlighting his control of the midfield throughout the match.
Midfield Control and Elite Passing Numbers
Bouaddi’s influence was reflected in his impressive statistical output. He recorded 87 touches against Brazil, a total surpassed only by Brazil’s two central defenders, underlining how central he was to Morocco’s build-up play.
He completed 60 of his 66 passes, achieving a passing accuracy of 90.7%, and according to Opta, became the second-youngest player since 1966 to complete at least 50 passes in a World Cup match, doing so at 18 years and 254 days.
His performance also included five dribble attempts, the second-highest among Moroccan players, behind Azzedine Ounahi.
Star-Studded Opta Best XI Selection
Bouaddi was selected in midfield alongside United States international Weston McKennie, with the attacking line featuring global stars such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland.
The XI also included Côte d’Ivoire forward Yann Diomandé, while the defensive line featured Antonee Robinson of the United States, Harry Souttar of Australia, Roberto Lopes of Cape Verde, and Michael Murillo of Panama. Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha completed the selection.
Rising Attention on Morocco’s Young Talent
Bouaddi’s breakout World Cup performance has intensified interest in his development, with several top European clubs reportedly monitoring him, including Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Former players and teammates have also praised his maturity, with Lille striker Olivier Giroud noting his confidence and composure.
For Morocco, his inclusion in Opta’s best XI serves as further validation of their strong opening performance against Brazil, as the Atlas Lions now turn their attention to upcoming group matches against Scotland and Haiti.
