Moroccan stars Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Díaz have earned recognition on a prestigious list of the top 100 players to watch ahead of the 2026 World Cup, compiled by The Athletic.

The ranking highlights standout performers expected to shape the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Hakimi secured an impressive 22nd place, underlining his status as one of the world’s finest full-backs. His position reflects a series of commanding displays for Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team.

Ranked as the highest full-back on the list, the 27-year-old continues to build on his reputation following a remarkable season that saw him claim the African Footballer of the Year award and finish sixth in the Ballon d’Or standings.

Meanwhile, Diaz was placed 83rd after a breakthrough campaign that elevated his profile on the international stage. His performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations proved decisive, as he won the Golden Boot and became the first player in the competition’s history to score in five consecutive matches.

Since committing to Morocco in 2024, Diaz has grown into a key figure in the Atlas Lions’ attacking setup, emerging as one of the team’s most influential players ahead of the World Cup.

The Athletic’s rankings were based on a blend of current form, career achievements, national team importance, and market value, bringing together many of football’s biggest names.

Topping the list are Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Lamine Yamal.

The list also features leading African and Arab talents, including Mohamed Salah in 19th place, Sadio Mané in 38th, and Riyad Mahrez in 64th.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in June as the first edition to feature 48 teams. Morocco will compete in Group C alongside Brazil national football team, Scotland national football team, and Haiti national football team.

The Atlas Lions begin their campaign with a high-profile clash against Brazil on June 13, before facing Scotland on June 19 and Haiti on June 24, in what promises to be a demanding group stage.
