Monaco plot permanent acquisition of Spanish-Guinean winger Ansu Fati
French giants AS Monaco are seeking for permanent acquisition of Spain international of Guinea-Bissau descent Ansu Fati ahead of the summer window.
Fati joined the Principality club last summer on loan from Barcelona and has since showcased glimpse of good performance in the current campaign.
Per reports, the Principality club are keen to retain Fati following a promising campaign, and are prepared to table an offer in the region of €11 million to FC Barcelona.
The 21-year-old has shown flashes of his undeniable talent, reigniting the form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting young prospects.
However, despite the club’s strong interest, negotiations are far from straightforward. Fati’s current salary — reported to be around €250,000 per month — poses a significant challenge for Monaco, who are actively working to streamline their wage structure. The financial climate in Ligue 1 has become increasingly restrictive, largely due to ongoing broadcast rights issues that have impacted club revenues across the board.
This financial squeeze has forced clubs like Monaco to rethink their spending strategies, prioritizing sustainability while remaining competitive. As a result, any deal for Fati will likely hinge on a compromise regarding his wages.
Encouragingly for Monaco, the player himself appears willing to meet the club halfway. Fati is reportedly open to taking a pay cut in order to continue his career in the principality, a clear indication of his desire to remain and rediscover his best form. Talks between the player and the club are expected to take place in the coming weeks as both sides seek common ground.
On the pitch, Fati has delivered a respectable return this season, featuring in 25 matches across all competitions and scoring nine goals. While he is yet to register an assist, his attacking presence and ability to influence games have not gone unnoticed by Monaco’s technical team.
With the club battling fiercely for a coveted Champions League spot, securing Fati on a long-term basis could prove to be a strategic masterstroke. Yet, in a league grappling with financial uncertainty, Monaco must carefully balance ambition with economic reality.
The coming weeks will be crucial as negotiations unfold — a deal that could define both Fati’s resurgence and Monaco’s future ambitions.
