Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé is nearing a swift return to management, with advanced discussions underway for him to take charge of Angola national football team following his resignation from Libya national football team.

Cissé stepped down from his role with Libya on Wednesday, bringing an end to a tenure that began in March 2025.

His departure comes amid reports of unpaid wages, with the 50-year-old having not received his salary during his time in charge.

Sources indicate that negotiations between Cissé and the Angolan football authorities are at an advanced stage, with a two-year contract expected to be agreed. The move would see the former Senegal national football team captain quickly transition into a new role.

Cissé built a strong reputation during his time with Senegal, having taken over as head coach in 2015 and guiding the team to victory at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

His experience at the highest level of African football is understood to be a key factor in Angola’s interest.

Angola are currently seeking a new direction after parting ways with French coach Patrice Beaumelle following their first-round exit at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Beaumelle has since taken up a position with Espérance Tunis.

During his time with Libya, Cissé oversaw ten matches, including World Cup qualifying fixtures against Angola.

His record included three victories, five draws and two defeats. Libya also played friendly matches in Morocco against Niger and Liberia in March, drawing both encounters.

Despite the challenges he faced, Cissé remained in his position longer than required under FIFA regulations, which allow coaches to terminate contracts after two months without pay. He is now entitled to pursue legal action to recover the wages owed to him.

Talks with Angola are expected to conclude soon, with the national team likely to resume activity during the next international window in June.
