Egypt qualify for U17 AFCON finals after victory over Libya
Egypt have secured qualification for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations finals after defeating Libya in the UNAF qualifying tournament, confirming their place at the competition in Morocco.
The result ensured that the young Pharaohs would advance to the final phase, marking a successful campaign in the regional qualifiers.
Egypt’s performance across the tournament has seen them finish second behind hosts Morocco, who are automatically qualified and therefore not counted among the teams competing for a place.
The victory over Libya proved decisive in Egypt’s progression, adding to a campaign that included two wins and one defeat, the latter coming against Morocco.
With qualification now secured, Egypt will complete their schedule with a final match against Algeria, although their place in the tournament is already confirmed.
The UNAF qualifying competition has provided valuable experience for the participating teams, offering a platform for young players to showcase their abilities at international level.
For Egypt, the campaign has been marked by consistency and the ability to deliver results when required.
Meanwhile, both Tunisia and Libya remain without a win in the tournament so far. Despite their struggles, they still have an opportunity to compete for the remaining qualifying position, keeping their hopes alive heading into the final round of fixtures.
Egypt’s qualification highlights the continued strength of their youth development system, as the next generation prepares to compete on the continental stage.
The U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will offer a further test for the young Pharaohs as they aim to build on their progress and challenge against the best teams in Africa.
