The Jordan Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Moroccan coach Lamia Boumehdi as the new head coach of the country’s women’s national football team.

The appointment marks another significant milestone in the career of one of Africa’s most accomplished women’s football managers.

The former Moroccan international will take charge of the national team while also playing a role in the broader development of women’s football within the federation’s structure.

Boumehdi established a strong reputation in African football during her time with TP Mazembe Women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

During her tenure, she led the club to notable domestic triumphs and continental success, most notably guiding the team to victory in the CAF Women’s Champions League while earning praise for her tactical approach and ability to build competitive squads.

Her accomplishments have also been recognised individually. Boumehdi was named CAF Women’s Coach of the Year in 2024 and successfully retained the honour in 2025.

Before her success at club level in Congo, the Moroccan tactician had already gained experience within the national football structure in Morocco. She worked with several youth national teams and briefly served as head coach of the senior Moroccan women’s national team in 2020.

Boumehdi also enjoyed an international playing career, representing and captaining the Morocco women’s national football team before transitioning into coaching.

With Boumehdi now at the helm, the Jordanian federation is aiming to strengthen the national team while continuing the development of its women’s football programme ahead of upcoming regional and continental competitions.
