Algeria have named 23-year-old Farès Ghedjemis in their extended squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, providing additional options on the right wing.

The preliminary squad for the March training camp in Italy features both established stars and newcomers, with Ghedjemis added to bolster competition in a position dominated by captain Riyad Mahrez.

Mahrez remains the undisputed starter, while Anis Hadj Moussa and Ilan Kebbal compete for the role of substitute. Ghedjemis is expected to serve primarily as an alternative in case one of the primary players is unavailable.

Currently playing for Frosinone Calcio in Italy’s Serie B, Ghedjemis is enjoying the most productive season of his career.

He has scored ten goals and contributed three assists in 29 appearances, demonstrating his ability to impact games from the right flank.

With his contract set to expire in June, Ghedjemis could be poised for a significant career move this summer.

His journey to this stage has included stints at multiple clubs in France and Italy, helping him develop the experience required to compete at an international level.

The Algeria coaching staff see the inclusion of Ghedjemis as a way to increase tactical flexibility without upsetting the squad’s existing balance.

His presence allows the team to maintain stability while expanding options should injuries or unavailability arise during the March camp.

As the 2026 World Cup approaches, Ghedjemis’s performances in training and potential opportunities on the right wing will determine whether he secures a place in Algeria’s final squad, joining established internationals as the Fennecs prepare for the tournament.
