Ousmane Fané: French defensive midfielder linked with move to India’s SC Delhi

Ousmane Fané has completed a move to Sporting Club Delhi, joining the Indian Super League side on a free transfer from his previous status as a free agent. The defensive midfielder signs a contract running from 2026-03-06 to 2027-06-30, giving the Delhi club at least one full season with the experienced anchor at the base of midfield.

The 32-year-old arrives with a current market valuation of €100k, according to the latest data, but SC Delhi have not paid a transfer fee to secure his services. Fané had been without a club following his departure from Indonesian side Persik Kediri, making him available on a free and allowing the Indian outfit to move decisively to reinforce their squad ahead of the new campaign.

Fané’s addition brings a seasoned defensive midfielder to SC Delhi, a player whose primary position is in front of the back four and who operates predominantly with his right foot. Standing at 1.93 m, he offers significant physical presence and aerial ability in the middle of the pitch, attributes that SC Delhi will look to exploit in both defensive phases and set-piece situations.

Born in Paris and holding both French and Ivorian nationality, Fané’s move to India extends an already wide-ranging international career. He has previously played in France, Norway, England, Malaysia, Kuwait, and Indonesia, giving him a breadth of experience across different footballing cultures and competitive environments. His early club career took him through Paris FC, Racing Club de France, and GSI Pontivy in France, before a switch to Lyn 1896 FK II in Norway.

He later built his reputation in England with Kidderminster Harriers and Oldham Athletic, where his market value first climbed towards six figures, and then with Shrewsbury Town. From there, Fané embarked on a sequence of moves across Asia and the Middle East: UiTM United FC and Penang FC in Malaysia, Khaitan SC in Kuwait, and Persik Kediri in Indonesia, before again becoming a free agent.

Across these stops, Fané has consistently been deployed as a screening midfielder, tasked with breaking up play, protecting the defence, and providing simple distribution into more advanced teammates. His profile suggests SC Delhi are targeting greater stability and physicality in central areas as they look to compete in the Indian Super League against more established domestic powers.

The transfer also underlines the continuing appeal of the Indian Super League to experienced European- and African-qualified professionals seeking competitive football outside Europe. For Fané, the move offers a fresh chapter in a career that has already spanned multiple continents, while Sporting Club Delhi gain a battle-hardened midfielder whose track record in varied leagues should help him adapt quickly to Indian conditions.
