Mohamed Sherif starts Iraq chapter with Al-Zawraa loan
Egypt striker Mohamed Sherif has joined Al-Zawraa SC from Al Ahly on loan, beginning a new chapter in the 30-year-old centre-forward’s career in Iraq. The move was completed on 14 August 2026, with his agreement running until 30 June 2027.
Sherif arrives at Al-Zawraa after returning to Al Ahly for the 2025-26 season. He initially left the Egyptian club for Saudi Pro League side Al-Khaleej in August 2023 in a €1.37m transfer, before moving back to Al Ahly on a free transfer in July 2025.
The forward built the most decorated period of his career at Al Ahly, winning the CAF Champions League twice and the CAF Super Cup twice. He was also part of three Egyptian championship-winning teams and lifted the Egyptian Cup twice with the Cairo club.
Sherif’s individual record includes two top-scorer awards during the 2020-21 campaign. He finished as the Egyptian Premier League’s leading scorer with 21 goals and also topped the CAF Champions League scoring chart with six goals.
Across his Premier League career, Sherif has made 191 appearances and scored 60 goals, while registering 21 assists. He has also recorded 15 goals in 44 CAF Champions League appearances, underlining his experience in major domestic and continental competitions.
The forward began his senior career with Wadi Degla, joining Al Ahly permanently in January 2018 for €450,000. He later spent part of the 2019-20 season on loan at Enppi SC before returning to Al Ahly, where he established himself as a regular attacking option.
Sherif has also played in the Saudi Pro League, making 55 appearances and scoring nine goals during his time with Al-Khaleej. His career honours include an Africa Cup of Nations runners-up medal with Egypt in 2021-22, alongside his extensive club success.
The move takes Sherif to the Iraq Stars League and gives Al-Zawraa a centre-forward who has scored 60 times in Egypt’s top flight. His loan with the Iraqi club is scheduled to remain in place until 30 June 2027.
