Vinicius Junior targeted as Nyom revels in revenge after Getafe stun Real Madrid
Allan Nyom waited months for this moment. When the final whistle pierced the night air at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Getafe defender did not simply celebrate a famous victory. He went looking for Vinícius Júnior.
Getafe’s 1-0 upset over Real Madrid was secured by a first-half strike from Martin Satriano, whose clinical finish midway through the opening period silenced the home crowd.
Yet beyond the tactical discipline and defensive resilience that underpinned the result, there was a personal subplot that added bite to the occasion.
Earlier this season at the Coliseum, Nyom endured a brief but dramatic cameo against Real Madrid. Introduced in the 80th minute, he lasted barely half a minute before being dismissed following an off-the-ball clash with Vinícius Júnior. The Brazilian winger had words for him that night, a moment Getafe coach José Bordalás later addressed.
“Vinícius came up to me and said ‘very good substitution’. He doesn’t need to come and say that to me, he doesn’t need to come and provoke me. There’s nothing to explain, that’s what he told me, and I told him to just focus on playing,” Bordalás said afterwards.
The tension lingered. Teammate Juan Iglesias also confronted the winger during that contest, telling him, “That’s why everyone hates you, learn from your teammates.”
Fast forward to Madrid, and the narrative flipped. As Getafe’s players celebrated a disciplined defensive display that frustrated Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Nyom made a beeline for the home bench, appearing to dedicate the triumph to Vinícius.
The gesture sparked fresh confrontation, with the Brazilian attempting to close the distance before teammates intervened. Bordalás stepped in too, urging calm and motioning that he would handle his player.
Both men were eventually escorted away in opposite directions. This time, however, it was Nyom who walked off with the broader smile, his revenge complete on one of Spanish football’s grandest stages.
