English-Ghanaian forward Rak-Sakyi nets winner for Stoke City in 2-1 triumph Oxford United
English-born Ghanaian attacker Jesurun Rak-Sakyi delivered when it mattered most on Wednesday night, finding the net to secure a 2-1 victory for Stoke City over Oxford United in the English Championship.
The young forward was handed a starting role in Stoke City’s Round 34 fixture of the 2025/26 campaign at the Bet365 Stadium and played a decisive role in the outcome.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when Lamine Cisse fired them into the lead, giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about before the interval.
Despite taking the advantage, Stoke were unable to build on their momentum. Oxford United responded strongly and restored parity just before halftime.
Ciaron Brown found the equaliser in the 44th minute after being set up by Stanley Mills, ensuring both sides went into the break level and setting up an intriguing second half.
With everything still to play for after the restart, Rak-Sakyi rose to the occasion. In the 57th minute, he climbed above his marker to meet a pinpoint cross from Sorba Thomas and powered home a well-directed header to put Stoke City back in front.
His effort ultimately proved to be the difference as the Potters held firm to see out the contest.
The victory lifts Stoke City to 13th place on the Championship table with 47 points, while Oxford United remain in 23rd position, having amassed 29 points from 34 matches this season.
