Jordan, one of Algeria’s group-stage opponents at the 2026 World Cup, has arranged a friendly against Nigeria in March and is working on further fixtures as it builds towards the tournament.

The Middle Eastern side, preparing for the first World Cup appearance in its history, is expected to face Nigeria national football team in Amman between 23 and 31 March, according to reports.

Discussions are ongoing over a second opponent during the same international window, with Peru or Costa Rica mentioned as possibilities.

Jordan, coached by Jamal Sellami, is also planning additional friendlies shortly before the finals.

Sources indicate the team could travel to Switzerland in late May or early June to play the Switzerland national football team in St Gallen.

The fixtures form part of a broader strategy to prepare for a challenging group that includes Algeria national football team.

Jordan’s technical staff are reportedly keen to test themselves against an Arab side with a profile similar to Algeria’s.

Contacts have been made with Egypt national football team regarding a potential friendly in the United States shortly before the World Cup.

Colombia has also been cited as a possible opponent during a pre-tournament camp in the US.

Elsewhere, other World Cup participants are finalising their own preparations.

Argentina national football team are set to play Spain on 27 March and Qatar on 31 March in Doha, while Austria national football team will host Ghana and South Korea in Vienna on the same dates.

Jordan arrive at the global tournament following a strong recent run under Sellami.

In December, they reached the final of the FIFA Arab Cup, losing 3-2 after extra time to Morocco’s A’ side, coached by Tarik Sektioui.

Algeria’s A’ team, led by Madjid Bougherra, were eliminated in the quarter-finals by the United Arab Emirates.

With their friendly calendar taking shape, Jordan’s focus now turns to refining their squad ahead of a historic World Cup campaign.
