Arsenal’s home record reaches new high as Kai Havertz hits historic scoring run
Arsenal reached two significant Premier League milestones at Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta’s side continued their remarkable home record and Kai Havertz scored in four consecutive starts for the first time in his English football career.
According to football statistics provider Opta, Arsenal’s two-goal lead against Coventry City was the 60th occasion on which they had gone two or more goals ahead in a Premier League home match under Arteta.
The outcome of those situations has been remarkably consistent. Arsenal have won 58 of the previous 59 matches in which they established such a lead at home during the Spanish manager’s tenure, drawing the other game and never losing.
That record underlines the strength and control Arsenal have shown at Emirates Stadium since Arteta took charge. Once they have created a significant advantage in front of their home supporters, opponents have proved unable to recover.
Arsenal also extended an extraordinary unbeaten sequence against promoted clubs. The result against Coventry City means they have now avoided defeat in 45 consecutive Premier League home matches against teams arriving from the division below.
The run consists of 40 victories and five draws, making it the longest unbeaten home sequence against promoted sides recorded by any club in Premier League history.
It is another indication of Arsenal’s authority at Emirates Stadium, where newly promoted teams have consistently struggled to compete with the Gunners.
Havertz’s individual achievement added another notable detail to the latest set of statistics. The Germany international scored against Coventry City to complete a run of goals in four successive starts the first time he has managed that since arriving in English football.
The sequence began with a goal against Burnley, followed by another against Paris Saint-Germain and a strike against Manchester City. Havertz then found the net against Coventry City, giving him four goals in as many consecutive starts.
His latest run represents the most productive spell of his English career and strengthens his importance to Arteta’s attacking plans during the current season. Havertz has increasingly become one of Arsenal’s key forward options, contributing goals against opponents from both domestic and European competition.
Opta summarised the team and player records in separate social media posts. Its assessment of Arsenal’s home record was accompanied by the word “Unbreakable”, while the Havertz statistic highlighted his goals against Burnley, Paris SG, Manchester City and Coventry City.
The progress made by Arsenal at home under Arteta has been reflected not only in their results but also in the consistency of their performances. Their record when leading by two goals, together with their historic sequence against promoted teams, demonstrates how difficult they have become to overcome at Emirates Stadium.
For Havertz, meanwhile, the four-match scoring streak provides further evidence that he is enjoying his strongest period since moving to the Premier League.
