Speculation surrounding the future of Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui continues to grow, with several clubs reportedly keeping an eye on his situation should he decide to part ways with the Atlas Lions.
According to French outlet sports.fr, nearly three weeks after Morocco’s defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations final, Regragui’s future remains unclear.
The loss to Senegal came in dramatic circumstances, with Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz missing a late penalty before Al-Nassr star Sadio Mane netted the decisive goal.
In the aftermath of the tournament, Foot Mercato claimed that Regragui had submitted his resignation just months before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which also coincides with the expiration of his current contract.
However, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation moved swiftly to deny the report, issuing an official statement to refute the claims.
Despite the federation’s response, questions continue to surround Regragui’s position, particularly following a campaign that exposed him to sustained criticism from sections of the local media and supporters.
Recent reports in France suggested that Regragui could emerge as a candidate to succeed Roberto De Zerbi as head coach of Olympique Marseille. Those links, however, have now been played down.
French journalist Marc Michinois, a former editor at Goal France and Le Parisien, addressed the rumours directly on his X account.
He said, “Despite Walid Regragui’s name reappearing in the news in recent hours, Olympique de Marseille is not showing any interest in him.”
The clarification appears to cool speculation linking the Moroccan coach to a move to the Ligue 1 club, leaving Regragui’s next steps firmly tied, for now, to developments within the Moroccan national team setup.
