Hugo Ekitike says he never had any doubts about joining Liverpool last summer, even though other clubs were interested in signing him.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the French forward explained that the chance to move to the reigning English champions made the decision straightforward.
“First of all because they are champions last season,” he said when asked why he chose Liverpool. “You can join the best team in England. How can you say no? And obviously the players, the style of play. I saw myself playing in this team, I was thinking it would look really good. For me, that was the best choice. Really easy.”
Liverpool paid 95 million euros to sign Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, and he has quickly justified the investment. He has already scored 15 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions, including 10 strikes in 21 Premier League matches for the Reds.
His strong start at Anfield underlines why he believed Liverpool’s project, squad and playing philosophy were the perfect fit for the next stage of his career.
