Jawad El Yamiq has completed a return to Spanish football after agreeing to rejoin Real Zaragoza until the end of the season, the Segunda División club has confirmed.

In a statement released on Monday, the Aragonese side said an agreement in principle had been reached for the signing of the 32-year-old Moroccan international, with the move subject to the successful completion of a medical examination.

The deal brings El Yamiq back to a club he represented previously, as Zaragoza look to strengthen their squad for the decisive closing months of the campaign.

The experienced central defender is no stranger to La Romareda, having already worn the Zaragoza shirt during the second half of the 2019-2020 season.

During that spell, he made 14 appearances and earned praise for his composure in defence, positional awareness and ability to read the game under pressure. His familiarity with the club and the league was a key factor in Zaragoza’s decision to bring him back.

El Yamiq arrives with a wealth of experience at both club and international level. A regular figure in the Moroccan national team setup, he has earned 41 caps for the Atlas Lions, contributing to several major international campaigns.

His career began at Olympique de Khouribga, where his performances laid the foundation for a move to one of Morocco’s most prominent clubs, Raja Casablanca.

His progress at Raja opened the door to European football, leading to spells in Italy with Genoa and Perugia before he moved to Spain, where he enjoyed a sustained period with Real Valladolid.

Across his career, El Yamiq has accumulated more than 300 professional appearances, building a reputation as a dependable defender capable of leading a back line.

More recently, the Moroccan spent time in the Saudi league, adding another chapter to a career shaped by varied footballing environments. His return to Spain now represents a new opportunity to apply that experience in a competitive setting he knows well.

For Real Zaragoza, the signing is seen as a move aimed at adding stability and leadership to the defence as the season reaches its final stretch.

For El Yamiq, it marks a familiar landing point and a chance to make an immediate impact, drawing on his experience to help guide the team through the challenges that lie ahead.
