Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned down Besiktas opening €15 million bid for the acquisition of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare.
The Turkish outfit are in the market for a new centre-forward following the early termination of Tammy Abraham’s loan spell, with the English international returning to Aston Villa.
His departure has left head coach Sergen Yalçın short of firepower up front, prompting the Istanbul giants to explore options across Europe ahead of the winter transfer deadline.
Beşiktaş have already initiated discussions with Wolves, identifying Arokodare as a prime target to lead their attack. However, the Super Eagles forward is not available at a cut price.
The Premier League club swiftly rejected Besiktas’ €15 million proposal and are said to be holding out for at least twice that amount.
Wolves are reluctant to entertain a sale after investing heavily in the striker. Wolves paid around €26 million to bring Arokodare in from KRC Genk last summer and have no intention of sanctioning a move that would result in an immediate financial loss.
Beyond the financial considerations, Wolves are also wary of weakening their squad midway through the season. With Jorge Strand Larsen recently departing for Crystal Palace, Rob Edwards’ side are keen to preserve attacking depth as they fight to steer clear of relegation trouble.
As things stand, Wolves remain firm on their valuation, leaving Beşiktaş with a decision to make if they are to push ahead with their pursuit of Arokodare before the transfer window closes.
