Al Hilal in talks with Arsenal over Gabriel Martinelli transfer

Al Hilal are pursuing a deal to sign Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, with negotiations continuing between the Saudi club and the Premier League side, according to The Athletic.

There is no agreement in place, and Al Hilal have yet to reach final terms with the 25-year-old Brazil international. However, discussions between the two clubs remain ongoing as Al Hilal look to advance their interest.

Arsenal are understood to want about £60m for Martinelli. The winger is now open to a move to Al Hilal after turning down an offer from Turkey.

Galatasaray had previously made a strong attempt to complete the signing of Martinelli before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Turkish club pushed to secure a deal for the Arsenal player, but the latest discussions involve Al Hilal.

Martinelli’s recent form will be a factor in the negotiations. He scored only once in the Premier League last season, making 30 appearances in the competition. Across his past 98 Premier League matches, he has scored 15 goals.

A departure without Arsenal bringing in a replacement would leave manager Mikel Arteta with limited options in the wide attacking positions. Martinelli’s ability to operate on the flank has made him part of Arsenal’s attacking depth, and selling him would reduce the number of established choices available to the manager.

Noni Madueke can play on either wing, while Christos Tzolis is expected to be used in more than one attacking position. Those options could help Arsenal cover the wide areas if Martinelli leaves, although Arteta may also have to rely more heavily on Max Dowman.

It remains unclear whether Dowman, who is 16, is ready to take on an influential role in the first team next season. His potential increased involvement would therefore be one of the consequences of Arsenal allowing Martinelli to depart without signing another winger.

For now, the proposed move remains at the negotiation stage. Al Hilal have not agreed a final deal with Martinelli or Arsenal, while the English club’s valuation is understood to be close to £60m. The Brazilian’s willingness to consider the transfer has strengthened the possibility of a move, but the two clubs still need to bridge the gap before it can be completed.
