Former Al Ahly captain Ayman Ashraf has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34.
Speaking on MBC MASR2, the versatile defender revealed that he has decided to hang up his boots and be satisfied with what he has achieved in his career.
Ashraf explained that he received several offers during the current winter transfer window but chose to turn them down, stressing that he wanted to preserve his image in front of Al Ahly fans.
His journey began in Al Ahly’s youth ranks before he was promoted to the first team in 2009, followed by a loan to Telephonat Beni Suef in 2012. He then joined Smouha on loan, making the move permanent in the summer of 2014.
The defender returned to Al Ahly in 2017 after his contract with Smouha expired, remaining at the Cairo giants until 2023, when he moved to National Bank of Egypt before leaving at the end of last season. Ashraf’s honours include three CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, six Egyptian Premier League titles, one Egypt Cup, and one Egyptian Super Cup.
Internationally, he earned 32 caps for Egypt and was part of the Pharaohs’ squad at the 2018 World Cup, sealing a memorable legacy.
