Emam Ashour has been suspended and heavily fined by Al Ahly after tensions escalated over the club’s refusal to accept a reported $5m offer from Major League Soccer.
The Egyptian international midfielder has found himself at the centre of a growing dispute after Al Ahly firmly rejected the proposal, making it clear they had no intention of allowing one of their key players to leave.
The decision is said to have sparked immediate frustration from Ashour, whom the club regard as an essential part of their squad.
The situation intensified when Ashour refused to travel with the team to Zanzibar despite being included in the squad for the CAF Champions League.
The move was viewed by club officials as an act of defiance, prompting swift disciplinary action.
Al Ahly responded by imposing a two-week suspension on the midfielder, along with a record fine of $320,000.
The sanctions underline the seriousness with which the club views the matter and signal a firm stance aimed at restoring discipline within the squad.
The dispute has cast significant doubt over Ashour’s future at the club. Once seen as a central figure in Al Ahly’s plans, he now faces an uncertain path as relations with the coaching staff and management appear to have deteriorated sharply.
While Al Ahly continue to insist on maintaining authority and stability within the team, the episode has exposed deep fractures.
The club’s leadership remains determined to assert control, but the measures taken have raised questions about whether the relationship can be repaired.
As the standoff continues, speculation has grown over whether a separation between the player and the club can still be avoided.
With trust eroded and tensions running high, the prospect of a parting of ways between Ashour and the Red Devils now appears increasingly realistic, leaving a once-promising partnership hanging in the balance.
