Al Ahly have handed down the heaviest fine in the club’s history to midfielder Imam Ashour after he failed to travel with the squad to Zanzibar for their CAF Champions League clash against Young Africans.

In an official statement, the Egyptian giants announced that Ashour has been fined EGP 1.5 million and suspended for two weeks.

The club noted that the previous highest fine stood at EGP 1 million, which had also been imposed on Ashour and teammate Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim “Kahraba.”

According to Al Ahly, the decision was taken by the club’s football director, Walid Salah El-Din, following Ashour’s absence from the team’s departure on Thursday morning for Zanzibar, where they are scheduled to face Tanzania’s Young Africans in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The club added that Ashour will train individually throughout the suspension period and will be barred from group training until February 12.

Al Ahly are set to face Young Africans at the Aman Stadium in Zanzibar on Saturday at 3:00 pm, in their fourth Group B fixture of the competition.

The Red Devils come into the encounter on the back of a 2-0 victory over Young Africans in their previous meeting last Friday at the Army Stadium in Borg El Arab, Alexandria.

Al Ahly currently sit top of Group B with seven points, while Young Africans are second with four points.
