Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro, widely known as TJOS and recognised as the official barber of the Nigeria national team, is preparing to turn personal disappointment into a moment of global recognition as he launches a fresh Guinness World Record attempt in Abuja.

On Thursday, January 29, the celebrity hairdresser will begin a renewed bid to set the mark for the Longest Professional Hairdressing Marathon, determined to finally secure a place in the record books after coming agonisingly close last year.

Aiyenuro is no stranger to extreme endurance. In his previous attempt, he worked continuously for an extraordinary 154 hours, a display of stamina and technical focus that captured attention across Nigeria and beyond.

However, despite completing the marathon, the effort was ultimately not ratified due to documentation and verification challenges, an outcome that brought frustration rather than fulfilment.

Instead of closing the door, Guinness World Records encouraged him to return with a fresh application, offering a second chance that he has embraced with renewed purpose.

This time, organisers say every procedural detail will be rigorously observed. Independent timekeepers, comprehensive documentation and strict adherence to Guinness World Records guidelines have all been put in place to ensure that the attempt meets the required global standards.

Beyond the personal ambition, the event is expected to attract figures from Nigeria’s creative and lifestyle industries, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in cultural innovation and entrepreneurship.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Aiyenuro said his motivation extends far beyond individual recognition. He described the attempt as a message to young Africans that excellence in craft can be pursued and celebrated without leaving the continent.

By pushing the limits of his profession, he hopes to encourage others to believe in the value of their skills and the power of persistence.

Support for the record bid has also come from within Nigeria’s football community. Super Eagles stars including Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon and captain Wilfred Ndidi have publicly backed Aiyenuro, highlighting the respect he commands both on and off the pitch.
