Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery in Amsterdam, Real Betis have confirmed.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Andalusian club revealed that the 29-year-old had an arthroscopic operation on his right ankle to address persistent discomfort that has affected him in recent weeks.
The procedure was performed by specialist Dr Gino Kerkhoffs, with members of Betis’ medical team present.
Amrabat will begin the early stages of his recovery in the Netherlands before returning to Seville to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical staff.
He is expected to be out of action for around six weeks.
The midfielder had initially attempted to manage the injury without surgery earlier in the campaign, keen to stay fit for Morocco’s AFCON 2025 campaign, where his involvement was limited. However, ongoing complications eventually made surgery unavoidable.
His absence is a setback for Betis, with medical projections indicating he will miss a number of key fixtures in both LaLiga and European competition.
The injury further depletes an already stretched midfield and leaves head coach Manuel Pellegrini with selection headaches as the season enters a demanding period.
