Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has been plunged into grief following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a tragic road accident in Agbor, Delta State.
Sunday Ndidi was rushed to a hospital after the crash but was confirmed dead by doctors, leaving family, friends, and supporters in deep shock. The loss comes at a painful moment for Wilfred, who is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most committed and hardworking internationals.
His Turkish club, Besiktas, expressed their sympathy with an emotional message on their official X account. “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi, the beloved father of our player Wilfred Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” reads the statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased and extend our sympathies to our player Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”
Ndidi also shared his heartbreak on Instagram, recalling their last phone call and the dreams they discussed together. He remembered dedicating his first national team goal celebration to his father, performing the famous “papilo” dance in his honour.
