Blackburn Rovers’ fight for Championship survival has intensified as Ryan Alebiosu returned from the Africa Cup of Nations to find his club sliding deeper into trouble, with a crucial run of home fixtures now viewed as their best chance to halt the decline.
The Lancashire side are entrenched in the relegation zone following a poor run of form that has left them dangerously close to the bottom three.
While Alebiosu spent the past month with Nigeria at AFCON, Rovers’ domestic struggles worsened, and he has rejoined a squad short on confidence but still searching for a way out.
Figures reported by Complete Sports underline the scale of the challenge facing Valérien Ismaël’s team. Blackburn are without a win in their last five Championship matches, recording three defeats and two draws.
With 28 points collected from 27 games, they sit third from bottom, just one point clear of safety.
Despite the bleak outlook, Alebiosu believes the fixture list offers a rare opportunity to steady the club’s season.
Beginning with the visit of Watford to Ewood Park, Blackburn are set to play three consecutive league matches at home, a sequence the defender sees as a potential turning point.
“Everyone is eager and looking forward to these next three home games,” the right-back told the club’s media.
For Alebiosu, the absence of immediate away trips could help the team rediscover balance and resilience, particularly in defence, where recent lapses have proven costly.
Playing in familiar surroundings, he hopes, will allow Blackburn to rebuild momentum and restore belief among players and supporters alike.
The priority, he insists, is to secure a long-awaited victory and relieve the mounting psychological pressure on the squad.
“This first win is something the group needs, and I’m sure we’ll bounce back from here,” he said.
Beyond tactics and fixtures, Alebiosu stressed the importance of unity during a period that is testing both morale and resolve. He believes the team’s cohesion will be decisive as Blackburn attempt to navigate a difficult stretch of the season.
“It’s a difficult period right now, but this bond will allow us to get through it, especially with the connections we have between the guys,” he added.
With relegation fears growing and margins for error shrinking, Blackburn’s upcoming home matches may now define whether their Championship status can be preserved.
