Nigeria international Frank Onyeka is staunchly supporting Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, urging the Football Federation to maintain him.
Chelle, who took over the Super Eagles coaching job in January 2025 guided the team to a third place finish at the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles triumphed over Egypt to secure bronze medal at the tournament, held in Morocco.
Despite not winning the title, Onyeka has heaped praise on the trainer, backing him to stay on as their coach, stressing the team progress at the tournament was the result of a steady process, not a sudden turnaround.
“I think it was a process… you could see what he wanted to do, his game plan and tactics,” Onyeka told Oma Akatugba, “He is a good man… very open-minded. Don’t let him go.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau has disclosed there are no plans to renew contract of Eric Chelle despite the teams impressive run at the AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Onyeka, who plies his trade for Brentford has made 41 appearances for the Super Eagles, scoring three goals across the period.
