Pyramids booked their place in the Egypt Cup quarterfinals with an emphatic 3-0 win over El Gouna on Tuesday at Khaled Beshara Stadium in the Red Sea governorate.
The visitors started strongly, taking control of the tie early and never allowing the hosts a way back into the match.
Mahmoud Abdel Hafiz Zalaka opened the scoring for Pyramids in the 9th minute, setting the tone with a composed finish. Just 14 minutes later, Mostafa Abdel Raouf Zizo doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, putting Pyramids firmly in command.
Striker Marwan Hamdy then added the third goal in the 27th minute, effectively killing off the contest before the half-hour mark. Under Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, Pyramids continue their strong cup run as defending champions, having lifted the trophy in the 2023–2024 season.
In another round-of-16 clash, Petrojet came from behind to defeat Modern Sport 2-1 after extra time at Petrosport Stadium. Modern Sport went ahead in the 41st minute through Ali Zaazaa, but Palestinian forward Badr Moussa equalized for Petrojet just before halftime in the 45th minute.
With the game locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the tie went to extra time, where Petrojet completed the turnaround. Adham Hamid scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 105+2 minute. The match also saw a red card for Modern Sport striker Hossam Hassan in the 105th minute, leaving his side a man down at a crucial stage.
Petrojet, coached by Said Eid, now advance to face Pyramids in a highly anticipated quarterfinal showdown.
Elsewhere in the bracket, Egyptian Telecommunications have already set up a last-eight meeting with ENPPI, while other ties involving Zed, Al Masry, Zamalek, Ceramica Cleopatra, Haras El Hodoud and Tala’ea El Gaish will complete the quarterfinal lineup.
