Standard Liège have confirmed the signing of teenage striker Bernard Nguene, completing a loan move from French side OGC Nice with an option to make the transfer permanent.
The Belgian club announced the arrival of the 19-year-old Cameroonian forward on its official Instagram account, marking a significant addition as Standard look to strengthen an underperforming attack midway through the season.
Nguene joins from Nice, where he has been under contract since September 2024 and remains tied to the Ligue 1 club until 2029.
The move offers the young striker an opportunity for regular football after gaining early top-flight experience in France.
Born on 4 August 2006 in Yaoundé, Nguene began his development at the Brasseries du Cameroun Football School before moving to Europe.
After signing for Nice, he progressed quickly through the club’s youth ranks, featuring for the under-19 side before being integrated into the elite group.
Despite his age, Nguene has already accumulated valuable senior experience.
He has played around 15 professional matches, including approximately a dozen appearances in Ligue 1 this season, most of them as a starter.
His involvement at the highest level has underlined both his physical readiness and tactical maturity.
Standard Liège are hoping his arrival will inject new energy into an attack that has struggled for consistency.
With 18 goals scored in 21 matches, the club currently holds the second-lowest scoring record in the Belgian First Division, highlighting the need for greater attacking output.
Nguene is known for his versatility across the front line. Naturally left-footed, he is capable of operating as a centre-forward or on either wing.
His mobility, technical ability and willingness to take on defenders offer tactical flexibility, while his capacity to hold up play allows teammates to join attacks more effectively.
The loan agreement includes an option to buy, giving Standard the possibility of securing the striker’s long-term future should he meet expectations in Belgium.
His current market value is estimated at €200,000, reflecting both his youth and his growing exposure at senior level.
For Standard Liège, the signing represents an investment in potential at a time when results have placed pressure on the squad.
For Nguene, the move offers a new platform to continue his development and establish himself in European football.
