AFCON 2025 ended with another golden chapter for Senegal, who edged host nation Morocco 1–0 after extra time in Rabat to lift the trophy once again.
The win crowned a tense, tactical final and confirmed the Lions of Teranga’s growing legacy on the African stage.
Senegal’s victory over Morocco at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah secured the country’s second Africa Cup of Nations title. Their first came in 2021, and this latest triumph in 2025 confirms that the current generation has transformed Senegal from perennial nearly-men into true African heavyweights.
In front of a packed Rabat crowd and with kick-off at 19:00 GMT, Senegal held their nerve against a Moroccan side playing its first AFCON final since 2004. The match remained goalless through normal time, with chances at both ends and Morocco pushing hard to make home advantage count.
Extra time finally delivered the breakthrough, as Pape Gueye struck in the 94th minute after being set up by Idrissa Gana Gueye to make it 1–0. From there, Senegal defended with discipline, protecting their narrow lead until the final whistle and leaving the host nation heartbroken.
This title means Senegal has now appeared in three of the last four AFCON finals, underlining a period of rare consistency at the top of African football. With two trophies now in their cabinet, the Lions of Teranga have firmly established a winning culture that future generations will be expected to carry forward.
