Zamalek’s board, in coordination with sporting director John Edward, has accepted the resignation of head coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf and thanked him for his time in charge of the team.

Club president Hussein Labib has tasked Tamer Abdel Hamid, assistant head coach in the youth sector, along with Hazem Emam and members of the current first-team staff, with leading the club’s youth side against Al Ittihad Alexandria in the Egypt Capital Cup on Thursday.

In an official statement on the club’s Facebook page, Zamalek confirmed that “consultations are ongoing between the board of directors and John Edward, the sporting director, to choose the new coaching staff for the team, with the appointment to be announced once an agreement is reached.”

The team is now fully focused on preparing for the Al Ittihad clash at Borg El Arab Stadium in the fourth round of the competition.

Abdel Raouf had taken over after Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera was sacked due to poor results. He led Zamalek in 9 matches, winning 4 games, drawing 3 and losing 2, including defeat to arch-rivals Al Ahly in the Super Cup final and to Smouha in the League Cup.
