Zambia head coach Moses Sichone has reflected on his side’s 3-0 defeat to Morocco in the third round of the group stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressing disappointment with both his team’s approach and the officiating during the encounter.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Sichone admitted that excessive respect for the hosts played a role in the outcome.
“We respected Morocco too much. Some of their players are known for their high level, and we have many young players, but I must also congratulate Morocco,” he said.
The Zambian coach also voiced strong concerns about the refereeing performance, suggesting it worked against his team.
“The refereeing was unacceptable, and everyone saw how he distributed the yellow cards in only one direction. I am sorry for the way this referee managed the match,” Sichone added.
Following the huge defeat to Morocco, Zambia are out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
