Manchester United defender Ayden Heaven says he is embracing every moment of his breakthrough season after seizing his opportunity in the first team over the past month.

The teenage centre-back of Ghanian descent, has stepped up impressively during a period when senior defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire have been sidelined by injury. His performances have caught the eye and given United a timely boost at the back.

Speaking ahead of United’s clash with Wolves, Heaven reflected on how quickly his chance arrived and how determined he is to build on it.

“I’ve enjoyed it,” he told United Review. “I think I’ve done well with the chances I’ve had, and I just want to take it into the next year and continue developing.

“It motivates me, knowing I’m capable of playing games like that. It just pushes me to keep improving.”

Heaven admitted he did not expect his breakthrough to come so soon after joining the club, but insists he was ready when called upon.

“I was surprised at how quick I got my chances when I first joined,” he said. “But I was ready, so hopefully I can get more in the new year.”
