Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has praised his team’s tactical discipline after a commanding 3–0 victory over Zambia in their final Group A match on Monday.
The Atlas Lions, hosts of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), sealed top spot in the group with seven points, rounding off the group phase in style.
Morocco opened the scoring through Ayoub El Kaabi before extending their lead in the 27th minute, when Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz found the net.
Zambia’s hopes of a comeback were effectively ended early in the second half as Morocco maintained their attacking intensity, with El Kaabi completing his brace in spectacular fashion, converting a bicycle kick in the 53rd minute.
Speaking after the match, Regragui expressed satisfaction with his side’s approach and execution.
“We played well and had a solid plan that worked out well. It was not an easy match, but thanks to a well-thought-out game plan, we managed to secure the result we needed and seal our qualification.
“We are the home team, so we must always play our games as a final. We have a very supportive crowd who are rallying behind us, and that is why all the players are giving it their utmost best in every match.”
Regragui also turned his attention to the knockout phase, insisting his team will remain focused as the tournament progresses.
“We look forward to the knockout stages and will continue working hard,” he added.
Morocco will now await one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage as their opponent in the next round.
