AS FAR Rabat have confirmed they have lodged an official appeal with CAF after being hit with heavy disciplinary sanctions following chaotic scenes in their 1-1 home draw with Egypt’s Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage at Moulay El Hassan Stadium.

The match was marred by crowd trouble, including an incident in which a “sharp object” was thrown toward Ahly winger Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, and large numbers of water bottles were hurled onto the pitch by home supporters.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee responded by ordering AS FAR to play two home games behind closed doors and fining the Moroccan club 100,000 dollars.

In addition, it reactivated a previously suspended one-match stadium ban that had been hanging over the club since a decision issued on 17 April, meaning the team currently faces three home fixtures without fans.

In a statement on Facebook, the club said that, “out of full commitment to defending its rights and legitimate interests, and in respect of legal procedures and deadlines,” it has submitted a formal appeal to the competent CAF bodies and now awaits the outcome.
