Zamalek stumble as Ismaily stun Pyramids in Capital Cup

Zamalek suffered their first defeat in this year’s Egypt Capital Cup, losing 1–0 at home to Smouha on Thursday at Al Mokawloon Al Arab Stadium in Group 3.

The only goal came in the 41st minute when Hossam Ashraf controlled a long ball in the box, headed it into his path and finished calmly, refusing to celebrate against his former club. The result lifts Smouha, coached by Ahmed Abdel Raouf, to 4 points in third place, while Zamalek remain on 4 points in second, behind group leaders Al Masry on 7.

In Group 2, Ismaily claimed their first win of the competition with an impressive 3–1 victory away to Pyramids at Petro Sport Stadium. Abdel Karim Mostafa opened the scoring on six minutes, before Nader Farag struck twice in the 38th and 40th minutes to put Ismaily firmly in control.

Pyramids, who are participating with their youth team under coach Mahmoud Samir, pulled one back through Youssef Fouad in the 79th minute, and Ismaily’s Mohamed Hassan was sent off on 70 minutes. Even so, the team, led by Algerian coach Miloud Hamdi, held on to reach 3 points, while Pyramids stay bottom of the group with no points.
