SC Paderborn are weighing up a move for SV Waldhof Mannheim striker Kennedy Okpala, with the 20-year-old German-Nigerian forward strongly rumoured to be on their radar for a step up to the 2. Bundesliga.
Data from Transfermarkt links Okpala, currently playing in Germany’s 3. Liga with Waldhof Mannheim, with an 88% probability of making the switch to Paderborn. While no agreement has been announced and no contract details have been finalised, the reported level of likelihood has intensified speculation that Paderborn see him as a developing attacking option for the second tier.
Okpala is currently valued at €600k, having seen his market value rise steadily over the last two years. That figure is being cited in reports as a reference point for any potential deal, although there is no indication yet of a fee or structure, and his contract situation at Mannheim is not publicly specified, leaving open the possibility that he could become a free agent if no extension is agreed.
Born on 17 December 2004 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Okpala stands at 1.85m and operates primarily as a centre-forward, favouring his right foot. He holds both German and Nigerian nationality and has come through the SV Waldhof Mannheim system, progressing from the club’s U17 side to the U19s before stepping up to the senior team in August 2023. All of his senior football to date has come in Germany with Mannheim.
With a growing reputation and a rapid increase in market value, a move to Paderborn and the 2. Bundesliga would represent the biggest test of Okpala’s career so far, and if the transfer materialises it could prove a significant staging post in his development and future prospects at a higher level.
