Justin Njinmah set to return to Werder Bremen training

Justin Njinmah is moving closer to a return for Werder Bremen after making progress in his recovery from a serious muscle injury, with the forward expected to begin partial team training next week.

The 25-year-old remains unavailable for Saturday’s home match against SC Paderborn, but coach Daniel Thioune has offered encouraging news about his rehabilitation. Njinmah has recently resumed running and ball work as he builds towards a return to full training.

“Justin Njinmah will be partially integrated (into training) next week. So, it’s not that far off now,” Thioune said during Thursday’s press conference.

The forward sustained the injury during Werder’s 4-1 defeat to Freiburg in late August and has been working individually since then. His recovery has progressed sufficiently for the club to begin planning the next stage of his rehabilitation.

Thioune has not set a definitive comeback date, but suggested Njinmah could become available after the upcoming midweek fixture schedule.

“Perhaps he will be available to us after the ‘English week’ (a week with matches in both league and cup/European competitions),” the coach added.

The final week of October could therefore prove important in determining when the forward returns to competitive action, although he must first complete partial training without another setback before rejoining the squad fully.

Njinmah’s return would provide Werder with another attacking option as they navigate a busy run of fixtures. For now, the focus remains on building his fitness gradually and ensuring he is ready to contribute when he returns.
