Morocco beat Syria to book Arab Cup semi-finals berth
Morocco edged past Syria 1-0 in a gripping quarter-final clash at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha on Thursday, securing their place in the 2025 Arab Cup semi-finals.
The decisive moment came in the 79th minute when Walid Azaro capitalized on a rebound from teammate Munir Shweir’s shot, following a remarkable save by Syrian goalkeeper Elias Hedaya, who was one of the standout performers of the match.
The game also saw Moroccan player Mohamed Mufid sent off in stoppage time at 90+1 minutes.
Under the guidance of coach Tariq Sektioui, Morocco now advance to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the Algeria-UAE encounter.
Syria, managed by Spanish coach Jose Lana, exited the tournament with heads held high after a spirited display, challenging the Atlas Lions throughout a tense and hard-fought match.
