AFCON 2025: Sébastien Desabre unveils 26-man DR Congo squad for tournament in Morocco
The Democratic Republic of Congo have announced their 26-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ahead of the tournament, which begins on December 21 in Morocco.
The biggest headline surrounds Yoane Wissa, who has been ruled out after failing to recover from a knee injury sustained in September.
His absence comes as a significant blow for the Leopards, who will now look to other senior figures for inspiration. Chancel Mbemba leads the group once again, while striker Simon Banza makes a notable return to the national setup.
DR Congo head into the competition placed in Group D alongside Senegal, Benin, and Botswana.
Between the sticks, the squad features a confident trio led by Timothy Fayulu of FC Noah, supported by Lionel Mpasi of Le Havre and Marvin Epolo from Standard Liège. All three offer stability and competition for the starting role.
Desabre’s defensive unit draws strength from experience across Europe. Aaron Wan-Bissaka brings Premier League pedigree, joining Gédéon Kalulu, Arthur Masuaku, and Joris Kayembe in a backline also reinforced by the leadership qualities of Chancel Mbemba and Axel Tuanzebe. Polish-based defender Stanislas Kapuadi adds further depth and defensive assurance.
In midfield, a blend of discipline and dynamism gives the Leopards balance. Nazim Sadiki, Edo Kayembe, and Samuel Moutoussamy provide the structure needed for Desabre’s tactical approach, offering a mix of grit, intelligence, and composure in possession.
The attacking midfield and wide positions are filled with creative spark. Charles Pickel, Noha Mukau, Mario Stroeykens, and Michel Balikwisha add flair and youthful energy, while seasoned attackers Theo Bongonda, Nathan Mbuku, and Benji Cipenga supply experience and versatility on the flanks.
Up front, DR Congo carries genuine firepower. Cedric Bakambu leads the line, supported by Silas Banza, Fiston Mayele, Samuel Essende, and Meschack Elia.

With a squad boasting European experience, youthful talent, and proven goal scorers, DR Congo approach AFCON 2025 with renewed belief.
Under Desabre’s guidance, the Leopards will look to channel their depth, organisation, and attacking potency as they set their sights on making a serious impact in Morocco.
