AFCON 2025: BOMBSHELL – Cameroon drop Andre Onana and Vincent Aboubakar from the final squad for tournament
AFCON 2025 has taken a dramatic twist for Cameroon, with star goalkeeper Andre Onana and captain Vincent Aboubakar both left out of the final squad for the Morocco tournament.
Onana’s omission comes at a time when he has been battling for consistency at club level, with errors and rotations raising questions about his form heading into the finals.
Aboubakar, long seen as the face of the Indomitable Lions’ attack, is also missing from the list, leaving fans stunned on the eve of a major tournament.

Their absence is part of a wider storm around the team, as FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o has sacked head coach Marc Brys and replaced him with David Pagou, with Martin Ndtoungou Mpile coming in as Technical Director after a power struggle with the Ministry of Sports.
Several other big names are omitted, amid speculation that politics and loyalties have influenced selection as much as tactics.
Cameroon now head into a tough AFCON group, facing heavyweights like Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and Mozambique without some of their most experienced leaders, and with their preparation overshadowed by boardroom battles and uncertainty over whether the new-look squad can cope with the pressure.
