Moussa Niakhaté celebrated a standout night for Lyon as he scored his first goal for the club and helped guide a dominant 6–0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League.
Lyon ended a five-match winless run across all competitions with a performance that restored confidence throughout the squad.
The Senegalese defender converted a penalty to open his Lyon account and played an influential role in a match that OL controlled from start to finish.
The team produced sharp attacking movement, consistent pressure, and a clinical edge that had been missing in recent weeks.
Niakhaté reflected on the performance with clear satisfaction and pointed to the group’s strong mentality.
He said the players trusted the plan put in place since the beginning of the season and applied it with full concentration.
“We knew we were superior if we respected the instructions and the game principles we followed all season,” Niakhaté said.
“We showed focus and that created a clear gap between the teams. We know we can cause problems for any team offensively, but we needed confidence in that area.
We got that back today. We respected the instructions and scored six goals. Everyone feels the confidence again and it proves we can score.”
The victory strengthened Lyon’s position at the top of their Europa League group with 12 points.
The result also lifts the team’s morale as they move toward the next phase of the competition with renewed belief and momentum.
