Burkina Faso’s Georgi Minoungou backs Stallions to qualify from Algeria’s AFCON 2025 group

Georgi Minoungou believes Burkina Faso can qualify from Group E of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite Algeria entering the tournament as the group’s strongest contender.

Group E features Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, a combination that promises intensity and balance.

Burkina Faso, however, refuses to embrace the label of underdog and prepares to compete with full confidence.

Minoungou shared his optimism during an interview with CAF.

He described the draw as demanding but fair and insisted that Burkina Faso holds enough quality to stand up to every opponent.

“The draw isn’t easy, but it stays balanced,” he said. “Algeria represents a great football nation, and Sudan always fights until the end.

But we have players who can respond: Bertrand Traoré, Dango Ouattara, Hervé Koffi, Arsène Kouassi, André Kaboré… and Lassina Traoré, who returns. We believe in our potential. We can get out of the group and cause an upset.”

Burkina Faso opens its campaign on 24 December 2025 in Casablanca with a match against Equatorial Guinea, a fixture that will set the tone for the Stallions’ ambitions.
