Alexander Isak sets unwanted 119-Year record as nightmare Liverpool start continues

Alexander Isak’s Liverpool career has taken a grim turn after the Swedish striker of Eritrean descent set an unwanted record dating back more than a century.

According to Opta data editor Michael Reid, Isak has become the first Liverpool player since 1906 to lose each of his first four top-flight league starts for the club.

The last man to endure such a run was Percy Saul, a player who didn’t cost the Reds a whopping transfer fee of €145 million.

Isak equalled Saul’s 119-year-old record during Liverpool’s crushing 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The striker led the line once again but failed to make an impact before being substituted in the 68th minute.

The result marked his fourth straight league defeat as a starter and compounded Liverpool’s slump, with the champions losing six of their last seven Premier League matches.

The alarming dip in form has dragged Liverpool down to 11th place, placing manager Arne Slot under increasing pressure as the title defence falls apart.

Isak’s struggles have only intensified scrutiny of the world-record Premier League fee Liverpool paid Newcastle United in the summer.

The move ended one of the most protracted transfer sagas in recent memory.

Newcastle resisted strongly, while Isak’s decision to publicly demand an exit saw him frozen out of the squad for weeks before he eventually forced through the switch.

Despite arriving with a reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards, his form has deteriorated sharply.
