Vladimir Petkovic stresses team unity over individual stars ahead of 2025 AFCON
After Algeria’s friendly win over Saudi Arabia, national coach Vladimir Petkovic made it clear that no individual comes before the team.
“There’s neither Mahrez nor Hadj Moussa for me, only the collective matters. At AFCON, making squad choices will be tough, the bench will be our strength.” Petkovic believes the team’s success relies on unity and each player’s commitment, whether a starter or a substitute. For him, no one is above the group.
Petkovic also confirmed preparations for 2025 AFCON will take place in Algiers. This local setup aims to help players adapt to tournament conditions, build tactical chemistry, and sharpen physical fitness. The familiar environment should boost focus and team bonding before the continental challenge begins.
He announced only one pre-tournament friendly is scheduled, giving players a final chance to adjust and for the staff to fine-tune tactics. Though difficult choices await, Petkovic views squad depth as a major advantage. His philosophy centers on solidarity and discipline, setting expectations for a united, high-performing Algeria team at 2025 AFCON.
