Somalia put up a determined performance on Monday to defeat Bahrain 2-1 at the end of their international friendly encounter at Bahrain National Stadium.
On the matchday, Bahrain struck first through Issa Maris, but Somalia responded before halftime as Mohamad Omar equalised to make it 1-1.
Despite the home side, ranked 90th in the latest FIFA rankings, applying pressure in the second half, they could not find a winner. Somalia, ranked 202nd, held firm and eventually took the lead when Issa Adam scored the decisive goal.
The friendly served as preparation for the upcoming FIFA Arab Cup qualifiers later this month in Qatar.
Somalia will face Oman, while Bahrain takes on Djibouti. Other CECAFA Zone teams in the qualification round include Sudan and South Sudan.
Recent friendlies in the region saw Tanzania fall 4-3 to Kuwait and Djibouti lose 6-0 to Morocco. On Tuesday, Uganda faces Morocco, and Kenya takes on Senegal in another round of international friendlies.
