Algeria’s national team got off to a promising start in their Jeddah camp, beating Zimbabwe 3-1 in a match that left coach Vladimir Petkovic pleased but focused on improvement.

In his press conference, Petkovic said, “This match was very helpful for us in many ways. We were able to try new players and give playing time to those who hadn’t had as many opportunities.” He noted that fitting them into the team’s style and principles was key, adding, “We played the match we needed and could have scored even more.”

Petkovic highlighted the team’s strong first half, with Bounedjah, Amoura, and Hadjam all finding the net. “We maintained a good rhythm overall, despite making many substitutions. I’m happy with how we followed our principles, even after tactical adjustments,” he said.

However, the coach pointed out areas to work on: “We could have scored more, especially after the break. There was a lack of efficiency in front of goal. That’s something we’ll fix quickly.” He acknowledged the tough hot and humid conditions in Jeddah.

On a personal note, Petkovic reassured fans about Hadjam: “He felt a little discomfort, hopefully nothing serious. We decided not to take risks.”

Looking ahead, Petkovic called the coming Saudi Arabia match “a different challenge with another tactical setup. It will help us build our team identity for AFCON.”

Summing up, Petkovic said, “We learned a lot today. Winning with style was important, and we move forward with confidence.”
