Algerian midfielder Ahmed Kendouci returns to training after long injury layoff
After nearly seven months away from the pitch, Algerian midfielder Ahmed Kendouci has finally made his return to group training with Swiss club FC Lugano.
Kendouci’s absence followed a double leg fracture suffered back in April during an Egyptian league match between Ceramica Cleopatra and Pharco FC. The road to recovery was long, after undergoing a delicate surgery, Kendouci dedicated himself to rehabilitation and strength training, with many weeks spent working individually before gradually resuming ball work.
Having transferred to Lugano this summer, the club publicly celebrated his progress, posting photos of him rejoining full team training and commending his determination and discipline. Kendouci, who previously starred for ES Setif and Cairo giants Al Ahly, has shown remarkable mental fortitude throughout this ordeal.
However, medical staff at Lugano are taking no risks, preferring to ease Kendouci back and avoid any setbacks. His full return to official competition will take a little longer, with coaches targeting the coming weeks for match action.
Prior to his injury, Kendouci was impressing with the Algerian national team. If he regains top form, he could become a serious candidate for Vladimir Petkovic’s squad at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
