CAF Awards 2025: Mamelodi Sundowns, Pyramids FC and ASEC Mimosas Lead Club of the Year race
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the ten nominees for the 2025 African Club of the Year award, celebrating the most outstanding sides on the continent over the past season.
Each of the shortlisted teams earned recognition through consistency, quality, and impact on both domestic and continental stages.
Algeria stands out with two representatives — CR Belouizdad and CS Constantine. CR Belouizdad continues to set the pace in North African football after four consecutive league titles.
The Algiers-based side has maintained remarkable consistency, regularly featuring in the CAF Champions League. CS Constantine, meanwhile, earned their nomination after a remarkable resurgence on the continental scene, showing resilience and tactical maturity throughout the campaign.
West Africa’s football heritage remains strongly represented through ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast. ASEC, one of Africa’s most respected academies, has long been a benchmark for development and stability.
The Abidjan giants continue to blend experienced campaigners with emerging homegrown talents, ensuring sustained success both domestically and internationally.
Egyptian powerhouse Pyramids FC joins the shortlist after their historic triumph in the CAF Champions League last season.
The club, a rising force in North African football, has broken through the dominance of traditional giants Al Ahly and Zamalek.
Their success signals a new era in Egyptian football, driven by ambition, financial investment, and competitive hunger.
Morocco’s RS Berkane also features prominently. The club has built a reputation for consistency in continental competitions, combining tactical discipline with a winning mentality. Their ability to deliver results in high-pressure moments continues to make them one of Africa’s most efficient teams.
Southern Africa dominates the rest of the list, led by Mamelodi Sundowns — the perennial favourites for this award.
The Pretoria-based club remains the standard-bearer for excellence on the continent, with dynamic football and continental success defining their era.
Their rivals, Orlando Pirates, also feature among the nominees. The Johannesburg giants, one of Africa’s most storied clubs, continue to blend tradition with modern ambition.
Newcomers Stellenbosch FC make their first appearance on the CAF Awards list. Their rapid rise in South African football has caught the attention of many, with their structured approach and youthful energy earning them recognition across the continent.
Sudan’s Al Hilal SC, a consistent force in African competitions, retains its place among the elite. Known for passionate support and strong home performances, Al Hilal continues to uphold Sudan’s proud football tradition.
Completing the list is Tanzania’s Simba SC, East Africa’s most prominent club, whose consistent performances in CAF competitions have solidified their continental reputation.
CAF will crown the 2025 African Club of the Year at the official awards ceremony in December, where one of these ten sides will earn the continent’s highest club honour.
