AS FAR pursue Guinean midfielder Lansana Sylla after standout display in Bamako

AS FAR have opened formal talks with Guinean champions Horoya AC over a potential transfer for Lansana Sylla, following the young midfielder’s impressive performance in the CAF Champions League preliminary round in Bamako.

According to reports, the sporting director and team manager of the Moroccan club have contacted their counterparts at Horoya AC to express strong interest in signing the 19-year-old defensive midfielder.

The interest emerged after Sylla delivered a commanding display against AS FAR during the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Champions League, held at the Mamadou Konaté Stadium.

His all-round midfield performance — marked by precise distribution, tactical awareness, and a powerful goal in the 22nd minute — caught the attention of the visiting Moroccan delegation.

A product of the Antonio Souaré Football Academy (AFAS), Sylla’s development has been closely monitored within Guinea, but his recent rise on the continental stage appears to have accelerated interest from abroad.

His ability to combine defensive discipline with composure on the ball made him stand out even against seasoned opposition.

Impressed by his showing, AS FAR officials reportedly entered Horoya’s locker room after the match to personally congratulate the player.

Those initial gestures of appreciation were followed by more structured talks between representatives of the two clubs.

According to the same source, discussions continued later at a hotel in Bamako, where AS FAR reaffirmed their intention to pursue a transfer.

“The youngster is attracting attention, and these are opportunities to be seized thanks to the African campaign. He demonstrated his full potential with a performance that impressed many Guinean observers. AS FAR clearly appreciated the player: after the match, their representatives came to the locker room to encourage him and then reiterated their interest. We are not closed — the doors remain open. But for now, we remain focused on the rest of the CAF Champions League.”

While Horoya have not yet received a formal financial proposal, the club is open to negotiations should the right offer arrive.

The Guinean champions have previously rebuffed approaches for Sylla, including a €120,000 offer from French third-division side Paris 13 Atlético last season, which they deemed insufficient.

As Sylla approaches his 20th birthday, his reputation continues to grow.

The Guinean international is now being tracked by several major African clubs, with AS FAR’s move signalling a serious intent to secure one of West Africa’s most promising midfield talents.
