Despite back-to-back losses, their hopes of progressing to the Round of 16 remain alive heading into their final group fixture.
Italy made a dominant start, taking full control in the first half and scoring three goals before the break with clinical finishing and strong attacking play.
Morocco struggled to contain the pressure early on but gradually found their rhythm, creating some chances toward the end of the half.
A moment of controversy occurred just before halftime when it appeared Italian goalkeeper Robionni had been shown a red card. However, the decision was overturned, allowing her to continue.
Morocco came out stronger in the second half with renewed determination, pressing higher and playing with more confidence. Their perseverance paid off in the 81st minute when Dounia El Mesmoudi scored Morocco’s first-ever Women’s World Cup goal on home soil, sparking jubilant celebrations from the home crowd.
The young Lionesses will now face Costa Rica in their final group match on Friday, 24th October.
With the possibility of qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams, Morocco will be aiming for a historic first World Cup victory to keep their tournament dreams alive.
